Rawalpindi: A Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate in Rawalpindi, Irfan Qureshi, has remanded a couple accused of torturing and killing a 12-year-old domestic worker to the custody of Banni Police Station for four days. Meanwhile, their co-accused, another maid, has been sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand.
The Banni Police presented the primary accused—Rashid Shafiq, the owner of the house, his wife Sana Rashid, and the second maid, Rubina—before the court. Investigating Officer Zahid Iqbal requested the court to grant physical remand for the couple to complete the investigation and recover evidence. He also requested a 14-day judicial remand for the co-accused, Rubina. Acting on this request, the court approved a four-day physical remand for Rashid Shafiq and his wife, directing the police to present them before the court again on February 17 for further investigation. Additionally, the court ordered that Rubina be sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand and be presented again on February 27.
It is worth noting that on February 11, Banni Police registered case number 204 against Rashid Shafiq, Sana Rashid, and Rubina under Sections 302/34, 328A, and 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case alleges that they brutally tortured 12-year-old housemaid Iqra, leaving her in critical condition, which ultimately led to her death at the hospital.
On Thursday, Banni Police brought the accused, Rashid Shafiq and his wife, to court under strict security measures.
