Road accidents claimed six lives in Karachi on Wednesday. A speeding dumper crushed multiple vehicles and two motorcycles in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, killing a government female teacher and her husband, along with another individual. Another person was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile in the Khokhrapar area, a passenger bus hit four persons on a motorcycle, killing a woman and her infant child on the spot, while the husband and another child were injured. In another road accident in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area, another man was killed and three children injured.
The accidents resulted in severe traffic congestion at locations, with long queues of vehicles. Additionally, at Baldia Lucky Toll Plaza, a speeding car overturned due to reckless driving, causing injuries to three people, including a man and his daughter.
The accident in Gulistan-e-Jauhar took place near the Millennium Mall on Rashid Minhas Road. The high-speed dumper truck collided with four cars and two motorcycles. The accident resulted in the deaths of three people, including a female school teacher and her husband, while one person was seriously injured.
The deceased were identified as Farooq, son of Shamsul Arifeen, 50-year-old Kamran and Maryam Zahra, daughter of Nasir Hussain. The injured man was identified as 18-year-old Ziaur Rehman, son of Farooq.
Police stated Kamran was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. His wife Zahra also died in the accident and their son Zia sustained injuries.
Police suspect that the accident occurred due to brake failure of the truck. SHO Faisal Gul stated that the dumper driver fled the scene, and efforts were under way to apprehend him. The dumper truck had been impounded.
The other man killed in the accident, Farooq, was a resident of Karsaz. He is said to be an employee of the Pakistan Navy. Despite heavy presence of traffic police in the area, heavy vehicles continue to move recklessly during the daytime. The accident led to a severe traffic jam from Millennium Mall to Jauhar Mor and Jauhar Mor to Jauhar Chowrangi.
In the Khokhrapar incident, a speeding passenger bus ran over a family riding a motorcycle. The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Bisma, wife of Imran, and her 18-month-old son Rahim. The injured included her 40-year-old Muhammad Imran, son of Noor, and eight-year-old son Arman.
The footage of the accident showed normal traffic movement, with people walking on the street when a high-speed passenger bus suddenly appeared from a narrow lane. A motorcyclist barely escaped the accident, but due to high speed, the bus lost control, entered another lane and crushed the family. Eyewitnesses captured the driver and handed him over to the police.
The uncle of the deceased infant spoke to the media, stating that his nephew and sister-in-law were on their way to visit their home when the speeding bus hit them. He demanded strict punishment for the responsible driver and justice for the victims' family.
The accident led to major traffic congestion in the area.
In the traffic accident that occurred near Ayub Shah Mazar in Gulshan-e-Maymar within the jurisdiction of the SITE Super Highway Industrial Area police, a young man died and three children were injured. The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Ismail, son of Rahim. The injured children were identified as four year-old Dua, daughter of Shafiq, five-year-old Rehan and six year-old Anas.
The injured children were transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, the victim’s family refused to pursue any legal action.
In another accident, a high-speed car lost control, hit a sidewalk and overturned in Baldia Town near the Northern Bypass. The accident resulted in three injuries. The injured were identified as 40-year-old Manzoor Bakhsh, 17-year-old Mehak, daughter of Manzoor Bakhsh, and 41-year-old Shah Nawaz, son of Iqbal. They were shifted to the Civil Hospital.
