60km/h speed limit set for motorcycles in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has set a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcycles across the province to enhance road safety.

The decision was taken in the 22nd meeting of the Provincial Cabinet held on January 14, 2025, and is enforced under Section 75(2) of the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1960.

A notification issued by the Transport and Mass Transit Department, signed by Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, instructs relevant authorities, including the Additional Inspector General of Police (Traffic) and district traffic officers, to ensure strict compliance.

The Punjab Emergency Services Department has also been directed to provide fortnightly data on motorcycle crashes for review by the Chief Minister’s Office.

The government has urged widespread publicity of the new speed limit to raise public awareness and improve road safety.
