LG by-polls in 50 wards of 25 Balochistan districts being held today

Necessary polling materials have been handed over to presiding officers on Saturday

QUETTA: The local government by-elections for 50 general wards in 25 districts of Balochistan will be held today (January 26, 2025).

According to a statement issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), in the local government by-elections to be held on Sunday today (Sunday) in 25 districts of Balochistan, 167 candidates are contesting for 50 general wards.

The statement further said that all arrangements for the elections, including security, have been completed.

The necessary polling materials have been handed over to the presiding officers on Saturday. For these by-elections, a total of 60 polling stations and 138 polling booths have been set up across the 25 districts of the province, where the total number of registered voters is 43,784. Polling will take place from 8 AM to 5 PM without any break.

The ECP has established an Election Monitoring and Control Center (EMCC) for the by-elections of local government in Balochistan. The center will provide a platform for the public to contact and lodge their complaints regarding the elections.

ECP statement said that immediate action will be taken to resolve complaints, and trained staff have been appointed to handle the process. Additionally, the ECP has set up control centers at four levels to register and address public complaints related to the electoral process, including at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, as well as at provincial, divisional, and district levels.

The public can also contact the EMCC center staff via email at complaintsecp.gov.pk to lodge their complaints regarding the by-elections.

EMCC has also provided a dedicated helpline at 051111327000. Complaints can be submitted to the EMCC from 8 AM to 5 PM until January 25. On the polling day, January 26, the EMCC will continue operations until the results are received.
