Sindh Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Friday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi where he issued directives to digitise the IGP Complaints Cell.
The meeting was attended by the DIGs of Headquarters, IT, AIGs, Admin, Complaints Cell, and Operations. The meeting was briefed by the AIG Complaints Cell on the performance of the department and the introduction of digital reforms. Introducing a digital application will reduce the time between matters such as receiving public complaints, calling for responses, and taking redressal actions.
The meeting was told that all in-charges from the IGP to the SHO will be provided with a “digital dashboard”, through which sending complaints to the relevant unit and responding after redressal will become quite easy and swift. The dashboard will also allow easy monitoring of the complaints sent to the units, their duration and the steps taken in terms of redressal. The meeting was further told that easy availability of data compiled regarding complaints will also be ensured through the digital application.
IGP Memon said digital reforms are the requirement of the modern era and an important need of the time. All in-charges of the complaints cell should act with professionalism in receiving and redressing public complaints, he said.
He directed that the staff of the complaints department should be trained on the use of the application and free registration of FIRs should be ensured. Moreover, in complaints related to serious crimes, the cases be registered against unknown accused on an immediate basis.
Memon directed that the IGP Complaints Center should be digitized according to the requirements of the modern era so that the system of resolving grievances and problems of the people could be made more effective and in line with the wishes of the people.
He said that expert, experienced and talented officers should be given responsibilities for resolving complaints related to police officers and personnel, while details containing serious complaints and the allegations against police officers and personnel should be sent to the Internal Accountability Bureau (IAB).
He emphasized that the staff of the complaint center should not only carefully review all the complaints received but also send them to the district and unit officers and make it possible to redress them.
