A private school teacher was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the North Karachi area on Friday. Police suspect that the victim, who hailed from North Waziristan, was targeted and killed over personal enmity. The incident occurred in the morning hours outside a private school located in the Rasheedabad area in North Karachi within the jusrisdiction of the Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police where unidentified armed suspects, who had been waiting for the victim, opened fire on him as he arrived.
The suspects fled the scene after shooting the victim who was identified as 38-year-old Khan Mayel, son of Mirof Khan. Following the incident, police and rescue workers reached the crime scene and transported the casualty to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
According to police, the deceased hailed from North Waziristan and was targeted just outside the school’s main gate where he had been teaching students of grades six and seven for 18 months.
Police said two men were involved in the killing, one of whom had his face covered with a shawl. Quoting the eyewitnesses, police said the suspect wearing the shawl signalled his accomplice as soon as the victim arrived, who then opened fire on him.
After the attack, both the suspects fled on a motorcycle. Police said the attackers used a 9mm pistol in the incident. The victim was shot in the head. Citing preliminary investigations, police said the incident was apparently motivated by personal enmity and they had retrieved CCTV footage from the crime scene. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
