ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday sought report from the federal and provincial governments regarding the implementation of Sheesha ban across the country.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad Anwar resumed the hearing of the suo motu notice taken over the implementation of the ban on Sheesha smoking and sought details from the federal and provincial AGs in this regard until the next hearing of the case which was adjourned for four weeks.
During course of proceedings, the counsel for health ministry told the court that the ministry had proposed ban on import of items used in Sheesha smoking.Justice Maqbool Baqar remarked that Sheesha smoking was causing serious health hazards. The Advocate General Punjab told the court that the government had prepared a draft regarding ban on Sheesha smoking which was under consideration before the provincial cabinet.
The counsel for Sindh government told the court that the chief minister had approved the summary regarding ban on Sheesha smoking in the province.Now the bill was under consideration before the provincial assembly, he added.
