SUKKUR: The Awami Tehreek on Sunday said Sunday it would protest against the plan for six new canals, IRSA Act Amendment, corporate farming, lawlessness in Sindh, and other key issues.
Awami Tehreek’s Central President Advocate Vasand Thari, Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar and other leaders, addressing a press conference at Sukkur Press Club, said that the protest movement will continue until the decision to build six new canals on Indus River is withdrawn.
“A rally will be held in Sukkur on December 22 and a conference will be held in Islamabad in the first week of January. Progressive groups from across the country will be invited to deliberate on a nationwide struggle to save the Indus River and the land,” they said.
The Awami Tehreek leaders said the PPP is supporting the PMLN-led government in its actions against the people and province of Sindh. “While pretending to oppose the canals, the PPP is practically siding with the rulers of Punjab on the issue of amendments to the IRSA Act and the construction of six new canals,” they said.
