ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar did not attend meeting of Federal Cabinet for approval of budget papers on Monday. The sources said that Chaudhry Nisar could not attend meeting of Federal Cabinet due to meeting of Nadra. His absence from the Cabinet meeting created rumours.
‘PPP still demands Nawaz’s resignation’
ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Rehman Malik on Monday said the Pakistan People’s Party was still standing by its demand for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation.Talking to the media outside the Zardari House in the federal capital, Malik said there would be no compromise on probe into the Panama Leaks against PM Nawaz Sharif’s family.He said that PPP Co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had demanded the premier’s resignation first among others after the Panama Papers published the leaks.
Three women injured in Mohmand grenade attack

GHALLANAI: Three women sustained injuries in a hand-grenade attack at a house in Safi tehsil in Mohmand Agency, official sources said on Monday. They said that unidentified persons lobbed a hand-grenade into the house of one Yousaf Khan in Dojangi locality in Safi. As a result, the wife of Yousaf Khan and his two daughters sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Ghallanai. Security forces have arrested several suspects.
Four suffer burn injuries in factory fire

KOHAT: Four workers suffered burn injuries when an arms factory caught fire in Darra Adamkhel on Monday, it was learnt. Around 50 kilograms of explosives and other weapons were reduced to ashes in the inferno. Security forces, rescue teams and locals rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after hectic efforts. Some of the injured were identified as Hameed, Zahidullah and Sartaj. They were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
Gas pipeline blown up in Dera Bugti
DERA BUGTI: Unidentified terrorists blew up a 13-inch diameter gas pipeline in Dera Bugti on Monday. Unknown miscreants had planted explosives along the gas supply line and later blew it up through a remote controlled device. The gas supply to surrounding areas was immediately suspended.

18-year-old girl dies after attempted rape in Khanewal

KHANEWAL: An 18-year-old girl has died, and her aunt seriously injured, after an incident of attempted rape on Monday, TV channels reported. The aunt and her niece were kidnapped by unknown individuals and taken to a private clinic in the city’s Block 5 area. “Unknown people had kidnapped the girl and her aunt, and had taken them to a two-floor private clinic,” said Khanewal’s District Police Officer Jahanzaib Nazir Khan. “The suspects tried to rape the women, and in order to save themselves, both jumped from the second floor,” added Jahanzaib Nazir Khan. The girl’s aunt was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for treatment, while the girl was declared dead on arrival, and her body was sent for postmortem. Law-enforcement officials have started an investigation and have sealed the clinic.
CII to further discuss bill on women rights
ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has prepared a draft bill having 163 sections on protection of women rights, which is still under consideration. CII Spokesman Dr Inamullah told APP that the council member, Maulana Imadullah, drafted the bill discussed in its 204th meeting. Some clauses of the bill were discussed in the meeting and the council members presented their recommendations, while other had not been discussed yet. He said the council referred a few clauses related to children to be incorporated in Protection of Children Rights Bill. About the news published in a section of the press, he said the bill condemned torture and CII Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani quoted reference of Ayat 34 of Surah Nisa which was misinterpreted in the media. He further informed that the government should take steps for medical treatment of women through women physicians and nurses but it did not mean that in case of non availability of female doctors, no male doctor could treat them. –APP
President for promoting gems, jewellery sector

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said that gems and jewellery sector needs to be properly utilised in order to increase the national income. During a presentation given by Chairman Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PG&JDC) Abdur Razzaq, the president said that the business community needs to work hard and modernise operations for industrial growth adding that the government is doing everything possible to provide a conducive environment to the business community. He said that reputable institutions of fashion design should be consulted to promote innovation in the gems and jewellery sector. He said by adopting a strategy that incorporates modernisation and international marketing, this sector can play an important role in increasing the national income. He said that stakeholders need to identify problems of the gems and jewellery sector and give suggestions to the government so that steps can be taken for its development.
