ISLAMABAD: PTI senior leader and former speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser Wednesday accused the government of constantly lying about the constitutional package and that the original draft had been hidden.
In a video message on the social media, he said they had been informed that their old draft was still the same, whereas in the draft constitutional amendment, the government was talking about military courts in addition to the constitutional courts. He claimed that they had received information that the previous document of the proposed constitutional amendment was still in place.
“The proposed constitutional amendment is to reduce the fundamental human rights and full work is under way on it. The government is constantly lying about the draft and is still hiding it,” he maintained. He wondered that the people will not raise their voice against the legislation introduced through oppression while, on its part, the PTI was standing against this oppression.
The PTI senior leader claimed, “We are continuously recording our peaceful protest”.
He claimed that offers worth over Rs1 billion were being made to the members of the opposition while the sanctity of privacy was being violated.
“I say to the people of Pakistan that you have always stood up for your rights. If the PTI founder is in jail today, he is in jail for your real freedom,” he contended. Asad said at the request of friendly countries and other opposition parties, they had postponed the protest but it had not ended, adding that they will fight for the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law and an independent judiciary in the country. He invited the lawyers fraternity to join the PTI’s struggle for what he called supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
