PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is launching its planned countrywide train march against corruption from the provincial capital today.
JI chief Senator Sirajul Haq will lead the train march from Peshawar to Karachi. The train march is part of the JI campaign against corruption that the party has launched a few weeks back to create an awareness among the people and to encourage them to raise their voice against corrupt practices.
JI’s senior leaders, including Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, on Tuesday visited the Cantonment Railway Station in Peshawar to inspect the arrangements for the march.
“The train march will reach Karachi in three stages,” Liaqat Baloch told reporters.He added that rallies against corruption would be held in Lahore as well as Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Jhelum, Gujranwala and other towns while on the way to Karachi. He continued that the march would end with a massive rally in Karachi.
“The JI Ameer will lead the march from Peshawar while the central, provincial and local leadership of the party will join him,” the JI leader said. Liaqat Baloch added that his party wanted the government to go after all those who have looted the public money and recover the amount to spend it on the welfare of the common man.
“Many people in the government and opposition have been exposed in the wake of the Panama Papers leaks. We want a judicial commission to probe the matter,” he added. Liaqat Baloch said that only the people can bring a real change and that was the reason they were going to the public to sensitise them. “We want the people from Peshawar to Karachi to come out against corruption, to bring an end to the looting of the public money so that it can be utilised for public welfare,” the JI leader added.
The party has launched a country-wide awareness campaign against corruption for the last many weeks. Rallies and meetings were held in many cities in recent months. “The Jamaat-i-Islami wants to create awareness among the public about corruption. We want the government and its agencies to recover the looted money and bring the accused to justice,” the JI chief Sirajul Haq told reporters in Peshawar on Tuesday.“Our party is striving to rid the country of corruption,” he added. He maintained that corruption was taking place but there was no system in place to stop it.
