Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tauheed Rehman Memon of District Korangi has dismissed five policemen from service in departmental punishments.
Officials said on Thursday that SSP Rehman conducted an internal inquiry into his district police stations regarding involvement of policemen in dubious activities and punished 328 officials.
Apart from dismissals of five officials, salaries have been deducted of 49 personnel for involvement in organised crime and other illegal activities, and show-cause notices have been given to them. Moreover, 83 police officers face pay cuts over absence from court duty while 177 for being absent from field duty.
Strict departmental action will be taken against any officer or in-charge of the Korangi Police if found involved in any illegal activity or organised crime, said the SSP.
One of the punishment letters issued by the District Korangi office reads, “PC-34714 Abid Chishti of PS Saudabad, district Korangi, Karachi, was issued a show-cause notice dated June-20, 2024 and the final show-cause notice dated June-27, 2024 and also issued a final duty resumption to him.”
The notices were sent to his residential address through the SHO of the Saudabad police station, but he did not comply with them nor did he submit any reply or resumed and joined duty till now.
Notices were issued to Abid Chishti because, as reported by the Saudabad SHO, he had been found continuously absent from government duty since May 25, 2024, without any intimation or permission. He was also issued with duty resumption notices through the SHO, but he still did not submit replies to any of the notices. The letter reads that his above misconduct reflects he is not interested in continuing his job and his attitude towards his duty is quite indifferent and he has no regard for his service.
“It is crystal clear that he is unlikely to become a good police official in near future. There is no valid reason to keep his case pending any longer and constrained to take Ex-Parte decision against him. Therefore, he is awarded with major punishment of “Dismissal from Service” with immediate effect.”
