DUET VC survives gun attack in Orangi girls college

Unidentified suspects attacked the vehicle of Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) Vice Chancellor Dr Samreen, who is senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Dr Asim Hussain’s wife, in Orangi Town on Tuesday evening.

Dr Samreen was invited to attend an event in connection with Independence Day that was held at a girls college in Orangi Town No. 11.

District West police chief SSP Hafeez Bugti said that according to the initial investigation, Dr Samreen’s vehicle, which was shot at twice by one of the unidentified suspects, was parked on the premises of the girls college.

Eyewitnesses said that the suspects were riding in a white car, adding that one of the suspects entered the girls college and opened fire on Dr Samreen’s car.

Dr Samreen said she was at the college for an Independence Day event when her car was shot at, following which the college staff moved her to a safe place.

Police said they are looking for CCTV camera footage and other evidence to trace the suspects, adding that the culprits would be brought to justice soon.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that a strong and integrated plan should be prepared regarding the security of important personalities, adding that the arrest of the culprits should be ensured as soon as possible.
