The Sindh education department in a notification on Tuesday extended the school holidays till August 14 due to weather conditions.
Officials said that on the instructions of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the education department issued the notification. Keeping in view the intensity of heat and possibility of severe rains, the education minister decided extension of the summer holidays and stated that co-curricular activities would continue in schools regarding August 14.
He directed all the private and government schools to organise programmes related to Independence Day. The new academic year in Sindh would start on August 15, Shah said.
“…in pursuance of decisions taken in the Sub-Committee of Steering Committee Meeting, the summer vacation are hereby extended in all public and private institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department till August-14, 2024 in the wake of the heat-wave and expected monsoon rains,” read the notification. It added: “However, the co-curricular activities regarding 14th August, 2024 celebrations shall continue in letter and spirit.”
