The rest of the members voted in Khuhro’s favour, electing him to head the PAC for the ongoing parliamentary term of the PA. Including Khuhro, the new PAC comprises seven lawmakers: six of them from the ruling PPP and one belonging to the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Talking to the media after his unopposed election, Khuhro expressed gratitude to the PPP leadership for nominating him for the position. He said the PAC would ensure the monitoring of the government’s expenditures and their use of the funds available with various departments of the provincial government.
He also said the PAC would take cognisance of irregularities and misappropriation of public money in any department of the provincial government, and recommend due punitive action against those involved. The PAC will not tolerate any instance of embezzlement or misappropriation of public funds in the province, he added.
Khuhro asked all the provincial government departments to ensure that funds from the public exchequer are maximally spent in the best interest of the masses. He said the representatives of the relevant provincial departments should attend the PAC meetings. He also thanked the committee members for electing him as the PAC chairman for the new term.
