Minor boy assaulted by watchman

PESHAWAR: In another incident of child abuse, a minor boy was reportedly sexually assaulted by a watchman in Regi on Monday. A resident of Regi told police that his 14-year-old son was sexually assaulted by a watchman identified as Wakeel hailing from Jamrud. He added that his son was also kept in illegal custody.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Hayatabad Hassan Afzal said that the first information report had been lodged against the accused, who was arrested. The official said the victim was sent to the Hayatabad Medical Complex for medical examination. A number of incidents of child abuse have been reported in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last few months.

Doctor shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Armed men gunned down a doctor in the limits of Faqirabad Police Station on Monday.Police said armed men shot dead one Dr Shah Mohammad of Kurram Agency while on way from home. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. According to Faqirabad Assistant Superintendent of Police Waseem Riaz, the family had an enmity back home in Kurram Agency. “The deceased was aware of the enmity and used to carry loaded pistol,” said the ASP.

Four soldiers injured in Tirah IED blast

BARA: Four soldiers were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on the roadside in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency, official sources said on Monday. They said the soldiers were on a routine patrol when the blast took place in Nari Baba area in lower Tirah valley. They were reportedly heading for the Kachkol Camp of the security forces. The explosion caused critical injuries to the four soldiers. They were identified as Khalil, Taufeeq, Shahbaz and Bilal. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

45 students faint

at school assembly in Dargai

DARGAI: Around 45 students fainted during school assembly in a state-run school in Dargai area in Malakand Agency on Monday.It was learnt that the students of the Government Higher Secondary School No.1 Dargai collapsed due to humidity during the school assembly. Ambulances from the nearby health facilities were called in to take the students to hospital. Doctors at the Dargai hospital said that the children fainted due to exposure to sunlight and humidity.

Pak woman gets Indian citizenship after 13 years

NEW DELHI: After a long wait of 13 years, a Pakistani woman was granted Indian citizenship.Deputy commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal handed over the certificate of Indian citizenship to Tahira Hazoor, Times of India reported quoting officials. Tahira had got married to Maqbool Ahmad, a resident of Qadian, Gurdaspur, in 2003. 33-year-old Tahira who hails from Faisalabad in Pakistan had applied for Indian citizenship in March 2011, after completing the mandatory 7 years of stay in India.Even the Punjab government had recommended her case to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs but she was neither granted Indian citizenship nor a temporary visa for Pakistan. In the absence of citizenship for last 13 years she was not allowed to move out of Qadian, she said.

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here at PM House on Monday.A press release from the PM House said matters pertaining to Pakistan Navy’s professional preparedness were discussed during the meeting. The PM appreciated the role of Pakistan Navy in safeguarding Pakistan’s sea frontiers.

Nayyar Bokhari, son granted bail in slapping case

ISLAMABAD: Court of Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad has granted bail to former chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and his son in pushing and slapping a policeman.Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and his son Syed Ijrar Hussain Bokhari appeared in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Raja Asif Mehmood Monday. Both were earlier granted interim bail till May 16. Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri president Islamabad High Court (IHC) Bar appeared on behalf of Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and prayed the court to confirm the bail. The court accepted the plea.
