In a traffic accident in the Port Qasim area on Friday, two motorcyclists were killed when a trailer truck run them over.

According to police, the driver of the trailer truck lost control due to over-speeding and hit a motorcycle near Port Qasim resulting in the deaths of the two men travelling on the motorcycle on the spot.

The deceased men were identified as Zahoor and Fahad. The bodies were shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The truck driver abandoned the truck and fled the scene after the accident. Later, police impounded the vehicle.

More than 1,400 people lost their lives and over 18,000 were injured in road accidents in Karachi in 2023.

According to reports from rescue organisations, over-speeding and riding motorbikes without helmets remain the major causes behind the deaths and injuries in road accidents.
