Karachi: Two employees of a fuel station were injured during a robbery bid in District Central on Thursday.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Gulberg police station. As armed robbers attempted to steal a cash bag from the manager of a fuel station, he put up resistance, prompting the robbers to open fire.
As a result of the firing, the manager, Syed Masnoon Ali Shah, and a driver, Fazal, were injured.
District SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui visited the scene and later enquired after the injured men at a hospital.
The driver sustained a bullet wound in his abdomen and the fuel station manager was shot in the wrist. Both were rushed to a private hospital on National Stadium Road and were in a stable condition as per a spokesperson for the District Central police.
The spokesperson disclosed that Shah and Fazal were transporting more than Rs10 million in cash from a Pakistan State Oil petrol pump in Federal B Area Block 10 to a bank without security. Two armed assailants intercepted their vehicle and opened fire, injuring both the victims.
The robbers managed to grab some cash before fleeing the scene but most of the cash amounting to Rs9 million in a separate bag remained untouched.
CCTV footage of the incident also emerged showing the robbers firing at the moving vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle responded by driving over the assailants. Initially they knocked off their motorcycle, but the robbers regained footing and fired additional shots before escaping on foot with a bag of money.
