Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump said that he will never ban the Chinese short-video app in the United States if he achieves power in the country’s election in November, as per a report by the New York Post.

Notably, Trump became popular as a stern critic of TikTok. His recent remarks turned out to be a sharp U-turn from his previous opinion about the app.

It was also Trump who initiated the US crusade against TikTok during his presidency in 2020.

Due to the personal data the TikTok app collected from its 100 million American users, Trump attempted to ban the app by deeming it a national security concern. However, that plan was struck down by US courts.

As part of a heated election campaign against US President Joe Biden, who already has a profile on the app, Trump went on to join TikTok at the beginning of this month.

Moreover, a new law requiring TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance to divest the app or face a ban in the US, has also been passed by the Biden’s government.

Additionally, Trump called Biden the “worst president in history,” before going on to pledge: “I will never ban TikTok.”
