Concerned over the law and order situation, the Sindh Home Department has imposed a ban of 90 days on the display and the brandishing of weapons.
The order stated that in continuation of the home department’s January 9 and February 23 orders, the provincial government has imposed a ban on displaying and brandishing weapons for a period of 90 days throughout the province with immediate effect under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Court (CrPC).
The ban will, however, not be applicable to personnel of the law enforcement agencies during their duty hours. The guards of registered private security companies are also allowed to carry weapons at places of duty during duty hours.
However, the guards are not allowed to display or brandish their weapons during their movement in vehicles, and should keep their weapons inside the vehicles. Moreover, the guards should not display their weapons while patrolling or performing their duties in open spaces. They should make sure that there is no unwarranted display of weapons that might create a sense of insecurity among the public. In pursuance of Section 195(i)(a) of the CrPC, SHOs of the police stations concerned have been authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the PPC.
