Islamabad : As part of efforts to promote literacy in the country, the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has carried out a training of trainers (TOT) programme in Islamabad's 1-8/2, Bhara Kahu, Sehala, Tarnol and Nilore areas.
A total of 1,433 schoolteachers from these urban localities have been trained under the “Each One Teaches One” campaign that aligns with the Roshan Pakistan Literacy Drive and the directives of the prime minister, according to the NCHD. It said that the TOT programme was planned to equip teachers as trainers with the necessary skills to effectively implement the Each One Teaches One Initiative.
"Teachers received specialized training on a condensed literacy syllabus designed specifically for illiterate individuals. By imparting these essential skills, we aim to accelerate literacy rates and empower citizens with the ability to read, write, and access information," it said. During the training session at the I-8/1 cluster, Director General of NCHD Mirza Nasiruddin Mashhood Ahmad showed up and appreciated the “dedication shown by trainers” and emphasized their critical role in transforming lives.
“With such sheer commitment, our nation will thrive, and we will achieve the ambitious goal of 100 percent literacy within a short time,” he said. The DG praised Safeerullah Khan, a senior school teacher at IMCB vi-x G-6/2 Islamabad, for his “unwavering resolve and commitment to literacy that earned him the title of Champion of Literacy.”
“Safeerullah Khan is a role model for all educators showing the impact the dedicated teachers can have on their communities,” he said.
He said the NCHD extended its gratitude to the resource persons who organised the training programme in record time. The commitment of the trainers, combined with the support of administrative staff, ensures that Pakistan moves closer to its literacy goals. Deputy Director Literacy Mr Tahir Zubair, Director Admin Hussain Bukhari, Siraj Ahmad HoD IT, and Hassan Abbas AD Admin accompanied Director General during his visit, reinforcing the collaborative effort to transform lives through education. The DG said as Pakistan continued its journey toward universal literacy, initiatives like the Each One Teaches One program play a pivotal role. "With dedicated trainers and champions like Safeerullah Khan, the nation is well on its way to achieving literacy for all," he said.
