The investigation police of District South on Friday arrested a man who staged his own abduction and murder. According to the police, the man, Ghulam Rasool, was the son of the Office Superintendent of the Session Court in District Shaheed Benazirabad. The police reported that Rasool was arrested in Rawalpindi based on technical evidence.
After he travelled from Nawabshah to Karachi on April 23, he went missing. On April 24, a case of his abduction was registered at the Saddar police station on the complaint of his uncle. During the investigation, it was revealed that Rasool owed a debt of Rs8.6 million. In an attempt to avoid repaying the loan, he pretended to be an abductor and messaged his friend on Facebook Messenger about his fake abduction. He further staged a fake murder by painting his body red and sent pictures of his supposed death to his friends.
Rasool, while impersonating his own abductor, also incited his family and friends to stage a protest outside the offices of senior police officers, including the inspector general of Sindh, demanding his resignation. This led to a two-day strike in Nawabshah. Rasool was involved in the land business, which resulted in significant losses. He owes Rs8 million in Nawabshah and Rs600,000 in Karachi.
