20 model cattle markets to be set up in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that 20 model cattle markets are being established in different cities on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.


Model cattle markets will also be established on the CPEC route. During the briefing by Chief Executive Officer Taseer Ahmed on the occasion of his visit to Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company (PCMMDC), he said that on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha business of buying and selling cattle would be enhanced manifold. He directed that all possible facilities should be provided to the traders and buyers in the markets. Zeeshan Rafique said that cattle markets worth Rs10 billion have been auctioned in the current year under the management of Cattle Market Management Company, but there is still a lot of room for increase in income. He said that the establishment of e-cattle market is an important project of the Punjab government. ‘Payment on delivery facility is provided for online purchases’, he said.

He said that the establishment of 1,233 helpline for online shopping information is a good initiative. He expressed his satisfaction over the fact that no case of lumpy skin has come to light in the markets of Punjab this year. He directed that there should be no compromise on cleanliness in cattle markets and provision of cool water should be ensured during the current hot weather. The LG minister expressed his determination that the eradication of illegal cattle markets would be ensured. ‘Immediate action will be taken on complaints of overcharging anywhere’, he directed. He figured out that cattle markets under the supervision of the government are monitored by drones and CCTV cameras, which has significantly reduced complaints of theft and vandalism. Zeeshan Rafique directed to review the use of animal excreta from cattle markets saying that link Green Waste with Suthra Punjab programme to provide quality sanitation facilities.
