City sizzles as mercury reaches 44°C

LAHORE:Heat wave further tightened its grip on the provincial metropolis as mercury reached 44°C here on Sunday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

Met officials said a shallow westerly wave was present over upper parts of the country and may persist during next 24 hours. They predicted that mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while very hot weather with windstorm-dust raising winds were likely in central and southern parts. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-windstorm/thunderstorm was expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

Rainfall was recorded at Kalam, Drosh, Mir Khani, Kalat, Panjgur, Quetta and Gupis only. Sunday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Shaheed Benazirabad where mercury reached 49°C, while in Lahore, it was 44°C and minimum was 28.3°C.
