The Karachi administration has decided to set up 22 sacrificial animal markets for Eidul Azha. Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Wednesday said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would establish eight major animal markets within its jurisdiction, while 12 markets would be set up by various town municipal corporations (TMCs). Two temporary animal markets would be set up in cantonment board areas.
Speaking with a delegation of journalists at his office, the commissioner said they had increased the number of notified sacrificial markets in the city following recommendations from the KMC and TMCs to eliminate illegal animal markets.
The commissioner said that previously, there were only eight legal animal markets, but dozens of illegal markets still emerged across the city. This year, he said, the administration wanted to curb illegal markets by approving 22 legal markets. Naqvi assured that strong action would be taken against illegal markets to enforce the government’s authority.
