Youth stabbed to death in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: A young man was stabbed to death on Monday by another youth over a petty issue. Police claimed they had arrested the killer. Deputy Superintendent of Police Aijaz Tareen said the tussle between two young persons in the Gharibabad area claimed the life of Shahzad Dayo, when he received multiple strikes of knife from Asad Chandio. Shahzad was rushed to the People’s University Hospital, where he succumbed to his critical injuries. Police arrested the killer and recovered the weapon used in the murder. It was learnt that Shahzad was the son of a head constable and was ran a rickshaw for earning.

Extortionists attack house in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A hand-grenade attack seemingly linked to extortion at the Dir Colony in Yakatoot area on created panic Monday night.According to the Rescue 1122 officials, the hand grenade attack was carried out in Dir Colony in the limits of Yakatoot Police Station.The locals said the house of one Pir Mohammad was targetted and the incident seemed to be related to extortion. Earlier, three persons were reported to be injured in a gas cylinder blast on the Dilazak Road. The wounded were shifted to hospital. Police said only one person was suffocated.

LHC dismisses PTI’s plea for larger bench

LAHORE: Lahore High Court judge Shahid Waheed Monday dismissed application of PTI seeking constitution of larger bench on petitions filed against PM, his family members and other politicians allegedly involved in offshore companies/businesses. The LHC passed the order holding that this miscellaneous application was not maintainable as the government is yet to come up with its reply in the main petition. Tahir Nawaz Sindhu of PTI lawyers’ wing had filed the application along with his main petition. He stated that a larger bench should be constituted, as the matter of Panama leaks was of great significance.

Four killed in Dir firing incident

DIR: Four persons including a woman were shot dead as unidentified gunmen on Monday fired at a cab in Sheringal in Upper Dir, police officials said.They said the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a cab in Samong area. The officials said three persons Hayatullah, Gul Sher and the cab driver Rahmanullah were killed on the spot while a woman sustained injuries in the incident. They said the injured was shifted to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The deceased were returning to Hayagai area from Sheringal when targetted by gunmen.

Motorcyclist killed

BUREWALA: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on Monday. Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti, of Chak 451/EB, Lot Bhattian, was riding his motorcycle on Multan Road when a speeding truck hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Tehsil Nazim vows protest to regain powers

MANSEHRA: Tehsil nazim of Mansehra Khuram Khan has said tehsil and district nazims across the province would launch a protest campaign against government to regain powers bestowed by Local Government Act 2013 and taken back through various amendments. “We are fed up with the amendments being incorporated in the LG Act 2013 to curtail our powers which adversely affected performance of tehsil and district governments,” he told reporters here on Monday. The tehsil nazim said the government was yet to release development funds to tehsil and district governments but had curtailed councils powers to approve development schemes.“We have submitted developmental schemes which are yet to be sanctioned.”

Protest against Hesco staged

NAWABSHAH: A PPP member of Sindh Assembly led hundreds of voters of Sakrand area and staged a protest against the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Hesco, in front of the Circle Office of Superintendent Engineer. The MPA said that Hesco disconnected the electric supply to over 200 villages of the area some six months back and are reluctant to restore it. He alleged the Hesco staff is involved in illegal recovery and supply of electricity and now they have issued inflated bills to consumers. Hesco Superintendent Engineer Farooq Afghan told this sribe that the supply was disconnected over non-payment of electricity bills.
