HYDERABAD: A total of nine carriages of the Punjab-bound freight train were derailed after a blast, which damaged the railway track at Murid Sipiyo railway crossing, some 10 kilometres from here on Monday afternoon.
Hyderabad Railway Superintendent Shamsuddin Solangi said the freight train was carrying coal and its nine carriages derailed when the blast occurred at the track. Soon after the incident, the railway officials, police, rescue workers and bomb disposal squad reached the spot.
The bomb disposal officials said a piece of track was cut off as a result of the blast, caused by a locally made bomb, which contained around 500 grams explosive substance. “No casualty was reported as a result of derailment,” the police confirmed. Railway traffic was suspended at different railway stations. The track was under examination and after clearance from the technical staff, it would be reopened.
