Additional Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon ruled that the prosecution successfully proved its case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt, sentencing him to undergo seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

The accused, who turned up in court on bail, was subsequently taken into custody and remanded to prison to serve out the sentence. The judge kept the case against the absconder, Faraz Ahmed, on dormant file till his arrest or surrender.

According to state prosecutor S Khursheed Bukhari, on January 5, 2021, complainant Mohammad Azam was returning home from work when two persons on a motorcycle intercepted him near Al-Mustafa Hospital in Khokhrapar. One of them took out a pistol and robbed him of his laptop worth Rs65,000, Rs7,000 in cash, two mobile phones, documents and an ATM card.

The prosecutor contended that the prosecution witnesses fully supported the case and their testimonies connected the accused with the commission of the crime. He said the accused had confessed to the crime before the investigation officer, disclosing how he along with his accomplice committed robbery. He added that the complainant had identified the accused during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate.

In his statement, the accused denied the charge, claiming that he was picked up by the Khokhrapar police two years back and was framed in this case after he failed to fullfil their demand for a bribe.

An FIR was lodged at the Khokhrapar police station under sections 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
