Leaders, workers hold rally on Labour Day

Islamabad : The leaders and workers of labour unions of took out a rally on the International Labour Day on May 1 here.

Addressing the rally, the union leaders from National Labour Federation (NLF), Pakistan Sports, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other organisations participated in the rally which was held in front of National Press Club.

The NLF President Shamsur Rehman Swati demanded in pensions of retired employees and setting minimum monthly wages at Rs50,000 per month in the upcoming budget in in view of inflation and price hike essential commodities in the country.

He demanded of the Government to convene Tripartite Labour Conference to address problems of the workers class. Ashiq Khan of Iesco said that Wapda has always been a profitable organization but a few private power generation plants have brought made lives of employees.

Tariq Chaudhry of Peoples Labour Federation, Amanullah Khan of CDA Union, Saghir Abbasi CDA union (Pasha Group), Raja Ejaz of Pakistan Sports Board and Professor Farhan Alam of Teachers Association also addressed the rally. They demanded of the Government to ensure implementation on labour laws and increase in pensions and salaries in the upcoming budget.
