Rawalpindi : On the occasion of International Labour Day, a number of grand functions were held at different government and private organisations on Wednesday.

Chairman District Coordination Committee Rawal­pindi Qamarul Islam attended the event organised by workers of Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) as a special guest. A large number of presidents and workers of various unions of Rawalpindi district, including Member of Provincial Assembly Imran Ilyas, Director of Labour Rawalpindi Samiullah Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Federation Unions Zahoor Awan, Hameed Jadoon and several others were present in the ceremonies.

Raja Qamar Islam and Imran Ilyas distributed checks of Rs1 cror 35 lac for the education of labourers' children on behalf of the Punjab government. He said that thanks to the workers, the wheel of development of the country moves. Exploitation of workers was always prevented, he said.

"I pay tribute to the people who work for human welfare," Raja Qamarul Islam said. I will always play my role for fair distribution of resources, he said. He said that establishment of Primary Health Centre at Union Council Hospital will be implemented soon.

From next month, provision of Morgah Union Council Mobile Unit will be ensured. So that people can get treatment for common diseases at their doorstep, he assured. Member Provincial Assembly Imran Ilyas said Workers are the builders of Pakistan. The labour class has always played its key role in the construction and development of Pakistan. Early delivery of mortuary bus to Morgah and Jirahi Union Council will be ensured.

At the end of the event, a solidarity rally was organised with the workers, which was led by Chairman Coordination Committee Raja Qamarul Islam and Member of Provincial Assembly Imran Ilyas, presidents of labour unions and a large number of workers participated in the rally here at Morgha.
