Mehergarh wraps up youth leadership training

Islamabad: A Centre for Learning recently concluded a transformative nine-day residential training titled "Inter-Provincial Relations for a Strong Democracy." Under the expert guidance of Dr. Fouzia Saeed, esteemed political and human rights activist and the founder of Mehergarh, alongside Maliha Husain, the Executive Director of Mehergarh, the training aimed to empower participants with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to fortify Pakistan's democratic ecosystem.

Drawing a diverse cohort from various political parties across all five provinces of Pakistan, the training fostered dynamic discussions and promoted collaboration and mutual understanding among the participants. Sessions were meticulously curated to encourage cross-political dialogue, with a special emphasis on inclusive leadership by Dr. Saeed. Critical topics such as gender dynamics and transgender identities were explored, offering valuable insights into societal intricacies by Mehlab Jamil. Dr. Kamran Ahmad virtually engaged participants in discussions on the complexities of men's socialization and its ramifications on interpersonal relationships. In delving into foreign policy within the geopolitical context, participants gained a nuanced understanding of Pakistan's strategic positioning by Paul Lundberg.

Nighat Siddique, the Director-General of ECP, delivered a comprehensive analysis of the 2024 elections, covering political party functions, electoral processes, and offering practical insights on governance and political engagement. Former Senator Mushahid Hussain elaborated on constitutional frameworks, parliamentary operations, and the intricate dynamics between the central government and regional units, providing a comprehensive understanding of governance dynamics. Additionally, insights from organizations such as PILDAT and FAFEN were shared by Ahmad Bilal Mahboob and Mudassar Rizvi, enriching discussions on governance practices. Furthermore, participants gained valuable insights into the National Finance Commission (NFC) Awards, with an emphasis on the citizen's pivotal role in shaping Pakistan's democratic future, presented by the renowned economist Kasar Bangali.

The training culminated in an enriching session by Dr. Kamran Ahmad, covering core issues in Pakistan's psyche impacting democracy, understanding religious diversity in the sub-continent, fostering public responses to extremism, and exploring Pakistan's spiritual heritage.The session also addressed effective leadership and the qualities essential for good leadership. The training concluded with a vibrant Cultural Night, where participants celebrated their diverse cultures through captivating performances and presentations, further strengthening the bonds forged during the intensive programme.
