PHC seeks details of cases against KP CM

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday directed the relevant departments to submit the details of cases registered against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpaur.

A division bench comprising Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal heard the petition filed by the KP chief minister seeking details of cases registered against him. Syed Sikandar Shah and Arshad Ali advocates appeared for the petitioner while Advocate General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel, Assistant Attorney General Daniyal Khan, and Additional Director (legal) Abdur Rahman Afridi represented KP government, federal government, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), respectively.

A prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau appeared for the (NAB).

During hearing, counsels for the petitioner informed the court that this petition had been filed to seek details of cases registered against the KP chief minister but the relevant departments had not yet submitted the same.

The KP government’s representative told the bench that there were six cases registered in Dera Ismail Khan against the petitioner in which challan had been submitted as well.

The NAB prosecutor said that one inquiry against the KP CM was lying suspended while the FIA representative said that the Cyber Wing of the agency in Dera Ismail Khan was conducting two inquiries against the petitioner.

However, the court was informed that the Anti-Corruption Establishment had not submitted a reply so far.

The KP AG told the bench that a meeting of all the stakeholders of the provincial government was going to be held on April 29 to decide the fate of cases registered on political grounds after May 9.

He pleaded that the KP CM had met the prime minister to end the confrontation and go together for the sake of the people’s prosperity and development of country, saying that the provincial government did not believe in political victimization.

Justice Shakeel Ahmad said the masses were reeling from unprecedented price-hike, rising prices of petrol, electricity, gas and rampant joblessness but politicians were busy with leg-pulling and unnecessary issues.

The PHC judge said that politicians should end their differences and work for the welfare of the people and the development of the country.

The court later directed the relevant departments to submit details of cases against the petitioner by the coming Thursday. The same bench sought a reply in another petition filed by Mahnoor and Zahoor Hassan, the wife and brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf social media in-charge Azhar Mashwani, against putting their names on the exit control list.
