Two military horses ran loose from their handlers and rushed through central London Wednesday morning, wounding four people as they rode throughout the city.

One of the horses was covered in blood-like substance which was red in colour. However, there was no instant information from authorities regarding what actually was on the white animal and how the pair escaped.

The horses had been recovered not long after they escaped from their handlers, as confirmed by London’s Metropolitan Police and the British Army.

After being injured in three separate incidents involving the horses, four people were taken to area hospitals, a spokesperson for the London Ambulance Services told CBS News.

Soon after the first incident, medical helpers arrived within five minutes. The incident involved a person being thrown from a horse near Buckingham Palace, as per the spokesperson.

A spokesperson for the British Army said "a number of military working horses became loose during routine exercise this morning", in a statement, which was emailed to news outlets.

"All of the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp. A number of personnel and horses have been injured and are receiving the appropriate medical attention," the statement read.
