40 goats perish in Nowshera landslide

NOWSHERA: At least 40 sacrificial goats perished and seven others seriously injured when a landslide from a mountain fell on them in Jammu Khairabad area in Nowshera district on Sunday.


Afreen, a resident of Khwazakhela in Swat, who is currently living in Jammu Khairabad, told the police that he was herding precious goats for grazing in the mountainous Jammu Khairabad area when all of a sudden a landslide fell from the hill on the cattle.

As a result, 47 goats were buried under the debris alive early in the day.He complained that no government department helped him but he himself brought an excavator on rent and local volunteers removed the debris until afternoon.

He said that carcasses of 40 goats were retrieved while seven others were rescued in critically injured condition.Afreen, who is also owner of the goat, said that he had lost about Rs3 million in the incident.

The affected herder from Swat has appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader to compensate him for the losses as he had no other source of income for the family.
