LAHORE : A police encounter in Baghbanpura area late Friday night resulted in the death of two dacoits, the martyrdom of a police officer, and the injury of another cop.
The fallen cop was identified as Imran Haider, while Dilawar, the injured policeman, received treatment at Services Hospital. However, the identities of the deceased dacoits remained unknown.
According to police reports, the officials of Baghbanpura police signaled a motorcycle to stop near PSO Pump Mominpura on GT Road, but instead of complying, the riders opened fire on the policemen. Constable Imran Haider tragically lost his life after being shot in the head during the ensuing gun battle. Head Constable Dildar sustained serious injuries. He was immediately transported to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment, where DIG Operations personally visited him and inquired about his condition from the doctors.
In the exchange of fire, two dacoits were also killed by the police. The identity of the slain robbers was yet to be made. The bodies were shifted to the morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, IG Punjab attended the funeral prayer of Shaheed Constable Imran Haider at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh. Alongside CCPO Lahore, DIG Headquarters, DIG Operations Lahore, DIG Investigation, and other senior officers, IG saluted Haider's body, laid a floral wreath, and offered prayers for his soul.
He commended Haider's bravery, stating that his sacrifice exemplified the dedication of Punjab Police. Haider, 38, leaves behind his wife, one son, and seven daughters.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers for martyred constable Imran Haider of Lahore Police were offered at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Saturday.
Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar, Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, DIG Operations Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, DIG Investigations Zeeshan Asghar, senior officers and police personnel attended the funeral prayers. Constable Imran Haider, posted at Baghbanpura Police Station, embraced martyrdom during fire exchange with dacoits. CCPO Lahore paid tribute to the martyred constable and prayers were offered for the departed soul. A police contingent saluted the body of the martyr. The CCPO offered condolences to the bereaved family.
The martyred constable belonged to Awan Dhai, Batapur area of Lahore and he survived by his wife and eight children. The CCPO issued directions for best treatment of Head Constable Dildar Hussain, who was injured during the encounter with dacoits. He emphasised the responsibility of Lahore Police for welfare of Constable Imran Haider’s family and promised full care and support. He reaffirmed the commitment that Constable Imran Haider’s family would not be left alone and the department would continue to look after their well-being diligently.
