HYDERABAD: Railways police submitted an application to a court on Tuesday, seeking cancellation of bail of Mir Hasan, a police officer who had allegedly tortured a woman to death on a train earlier this month.
After the woman's death, the Railways police submitted the bail cancellation application to the second civil judge and judicial magistrate, Hyderabad, on which the court summoned the parties on April 22 and issued notices.
Police officer Mir Hasan has been suspended and a case registered against him. He has been sent to the quarter-guard. He was arrested after a video of torture on the woman went viral. Later on April 13, the civil magistrate granted bail to the accused. After the news of the woman's death on April 15 was broadcast in the media, the Hyderabad Railways Police on Tuesday requested the court to cancel the bail
The Railways police told The News on Sunday that the incident took place on April 7 on Karachi to Lala Musa-bound Millat Express. The woman, who belonged to Jaranwala, Faisalabad, was identified as Maryam Bibi.
The victim's brother, Afzal, told The News on Sunday that his sister worked at a beauty parlour in Karachi, and she was coming to Jaranwala to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
Afzal said Maryam left Karachi on April 7 by the Millat Express. He said that the Bahawalpur police informed his family of Maryam's death, saying she fell from the train. "We buried her on April 9 in the village thinking it was a train accident. When the video went viral, the truth behind the incident and the violence on my sister came to the fore," he added.
