Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) is on high alert imposed ‘Rain Emergency’ in view of the severe rainy spell.
The WASA Managing Director Saleem Ashraf told ‘The News’ that we are on high alert and cancelled leaves of whole staff. The Met Office predicted heavy rain spell in coming days, he said. He said that WASA is ready to face any kind of situation. “It has formed two shifts of twelve hours each to provide round the clock support and has completed the inspection of machinery for the contingency plan,” he said.
He said that all kinds of heavy machinery was present at all points of Rawalpindi city to control situation. He said that I have directed field staff to focus the areas of low lying. The field staff was busy to remove rainwater from all low lying areas, he claimed. We are strictly monitoring ‘Nullah Leh’ and several other big and small drains in city.
According to the agency, the contingency arrangements in the case of heavy rain have been completed. It includes setting up of three complaint centres which citizens can contact in case they get trapped in a low-lying area that has been submerged.
NHMP impose Rs11m fine on PSV during Eid
Islamabad: Under the directions of Inspector General, National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Salman Chaudhry, the officers took stern action against the complaints of overcharging by transporters during Eid-ul-Fitr and returned more than Rs39 lac to passengers of public service vehicles that were over-charged during Eid days, says a press release.
Additionally, 6,935 public service vehicles (PSV) were fined on overcharging and overloading. More than Rs11 million fine was imposed against these violations. Furthermore, NHMP ensured the safe and comfortable travel of commuters on the occasion of Eid. Timely and quick action of Motorway Police was highly appreciated.
Inspector General Salman Chaudhry reiterated that the safety of passengers travelling on National Highways remains NHMP’s prime responsibility. In this regard, additional officers and special squads were deployed at various points to deal with any untoward situation. Along with this, officers at all the main toll plazas took steps to resolve complaints of passengers in a timely manner.
