Conspiracy theorists are having the time of their lives linking the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that hit New York area on Friday with the rare total solar eclipse that is estimated to occur on April 8, Monday.
Although no injuries or deaths were reported, the earthquake that hit North East America, was the third-largest earthquake recorded in the area in the last five decades and the strongest in New Jersey in more than 240 years.
Earthquakes pose a significant risk to life and property, hence it is crucial we take necessary steps and precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones, Times Now News reported.
What to do if you are indoors?
- Take cover under some sturdy furniture, such as table or bed
- Protect yourself by covering your head and face in a crouching position
- Stay away from glass, windows, or anything that could fall
- Stay inside until shaking stops, do not run outside as reports suggest most injuries occur when people try leaving a building
What to do if you're outdoors?
- Move away from buildings, trees, streetlights and any wires
- Stay where you are until the shaking stops
- If you are in a car, stop the vehicle until the shaking stops and park away from any buildings, wires or lampposts
What to do if you're trapped under debris?
- Do not light a match or any sort of fire
- Do not shout, or scream, as you can inhale dangerous amounts of dust
- Tap on a pipe or a wall to alert someone to rescue you
- Try covering your mouth and nose
