Deputy Inspector General Karachi Traffic Police Ahmed Nawaz chaired a meeting at his office on Tuesday and said one-way violations are a serious problem for traffic, but people have made violations of this traffic rule a daily routine.
Addressing the meeting, which was attended by all the traffic SPs, the DIG said fines should be imposed on those who violate traffic rules, and their vehicles should be confiscated if they do not submit the fine.
Our focus is not on giving challans but on maintaining traffic and facilitating people, but in case of violations of rules, there will definitely be a challan, he said, adding that multiple violations should be given in just one challan.
DIG Nawaz directed that the enforcement officers should stand at the signal, make videos of those who violate rules through their body-worn cameras and keep them safe. He called for deploying 30 per cent of the traffic cops during the day and 70 per cent around the markets at night to maintain the timely traffic flow.
Moreover, he ordered deploying additional personnel on Korangi Road, Sunset Boulevard, and Mai Kolachi Road, which are under traffic pressure during night hours, and to ensure the traffic flow. The DIG directed that the transport unions should told to instruct their drivers to ensure fast lane adherence, banners be put up along roads in this regard, and patrolling car and motorcycle patrolling officers should inform people through megaphones that heavy vehicles should avoid running in fast lanes.
