Accountability must begin from PM: Siraj

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has reiterated that the process of accountability should begin with the prime minister and his family, adding, “If prime minister’s suggestion to begin accountability from 1947 was accepted, Nawaz Sharif’s turn won’t come even till the Doomsday.”

He was addressing a public meeting at Thal, a town in Lower Dir on Tuesday, says a message received at Mansoorah. JI chief said he was surprised to know the assets of the politicians submitted to Election Commission and pointed out that the ruling people owned palaces valuing around 600 million each in different cities and towns. He said he too had been a member of the provincial cabinet twice but when he left the office, he did not own even a motor car.

Sirajul Haq reiterated the "revolutionary agenda" of JI and expressed hope that people of the area would support him and JI in its plan. He said JI had already begun campaign against corruption and was sure that this campaign would be successful in rooting out the menace of corruption from the country. JI naib ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam, KPK ameer Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and the MNAs and MPAs of the area were also present.

Meanwhile, in a message on the World Press Freedom Day, Senator Sirajul Haq paid rich tributes to journalists’ struggle for the freedom of the press. He said those laying down their lives for the freedom of press, are the heroes of nation.

He asked the government to resolve the problems being faced by the journalists community in discharge of their professional responsibilities. He said media had played a leading role in awakening public conscience. He said it was government's responsibility to look after the families of journalists martyred in the discharge of their professional duties.
