President Asif Zardari's sister Fauzia Zardari has said that she and her family have nothing to do with the police raid on Murtaza Jatoi's house in Karachi. Talking to The News, she said she and her family were being unnecessarily dragged into the police action.
She added that on the day of the elections, Murtaza and his son Bilal Jatoi’s armed men got involved in an attack, in which an innocent citizen was killed and many were injured and subsequently a murder case was registered against Murtaza, Bilal and their associates.
She explained that as per her knowledge, Bilal had neither obtained bail in the case nor joined the police investigation. In this connection, the police took legal action to arrest a suspect in the murder case, argued Fauzia.
She said Murtaza's wife Naveen was trying to implicate her and her family in the case on false and malicious grounds and she had the right to take legal action against Murtaza's family for making false allegations.
Replying to a question, Fauzia said the land that Murtaza's wife had referred to had nothing to do with the murder case and a case over the said land was being heard by the Sindh High Court.
Earlier on Wednesday, police had conducted a raid on the DHA residence of former federal minister Murtaza for the arrest of his son booked in a murder case. Naveen condemned the police raid, terming it political victimisation. She alleged mishandling of household items, and mistreatment of women and children by the police during the raid.
Denouncing the raid as state terrorism in Sindh, she asserted that they were targeted for not aligning with the Pakistan Peoples Party and appealed to the chief Justice of Pakistan to intervene. Opposition parties of Sindh, including the Grand Democratic Alliance, have also condemned the raid.
