Commerce minister in Abu Dhabi to attend WTO ministerial moot

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce, Industry, and Investment Gohar Ejaz arrived in Abu Dhabi to attend the 13 WTO Ministerial Conference 2024 which has been opened By Sheikh Khalid Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of UAE.

The WTO Trade Minister Conference is being hosted by UAE and Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Trade Minister of UAE is the Chairman of 13 WTO Ministerial Conference. Mr Ejaz held separate meetings on the sidelines of the WTO ministerial moot with commerce ministers of China, KSA, Bahrain, Turkey, Egypt, and Kuwait.

The WTO’s Ministerial Conference is being held from 26 to 29 February 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Ministers from across the world will attend to review the functioning of the multilateral trading system and to take action on the future work of the WTO.

The topmost decision-making body of the WTO is the Ministerial Conference, which usually meets every two years. It brings together all members of the WTO, all of which are countries or customs unions. The Ministerial Conference can take decisions on all matters under any of the multilateral trade agreements.

The WTO ministerial moot would deliberate the various topics such as accessions, development, E-commerce, environment, fisheries subsides, and investment facilitation, agreements on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), and WTO dispute settlement reforms.
