A teenage boy was shot dead apparently during a mugging bid on the outskirts of the city on Monday.
The incident took place in Bismillah Colony within the limits of the Mochko police station where during a robbery, armed assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire over offering resistance during a mugging bid, killing an 18-year-old teenager, Muzammil, son of Abdul Majeed.
A large number of the victim’s family members, relatives, friends and others gathered on Hub River Road and staged a protest after the murder. The agitated protesters placed the deceased teenager's body on the road and brought the traffic on Hub River Road to a halt.
Heavy police contingents arrived at the scene but the situation remained tense. The protesters said the area had been witnessing a surge in incidents of robbery and murders but the police had failed to bring the situation under control.
Later, the police dispersed the protesters after assuring them that the culprits would be arrested. Quoting the initial investigations, police said the incident occurred during a mugging bid.
