LAHORE: Very unhealthy air quality continued to prevail in the City here on Sunday while Met office warned that dense fog was likely to continue over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Sindh during this week.
Met officials advised the citizens to be cautious and avoid unnecessary traveling at night hours. In the evening, dense fog enveloped the City, which continued till early morning.
As per the IQAir, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the City was 223, which falls in the category of very unhealthy due to which the citizens were facing various health issues.
On the other hand, Met officials said a shallow westerly wave was present over western parts of the country. They predicted that mainly cold and cloudy weather was expected in most of upper and western parts of the country while very cold in northern parts.
They further said rain-thunderstorm (snow over mountains) was likely in northern Balochistan and lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa while light rain/drizzle may occur in upper Punjab, Pothohar region and Kashmir and dense fog/smog was likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.
Sunday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Leh where mercury dropped to -12°C while in Lahore it was 4.6°C and maximum was 13°C.
