Protest against gas shortage, increasing tariff held

Rawalpindi : The residents and business community on Saturday held a protest demonstration against gas shortage and increasing tariff and complained that there has been no supply of gas.

The protesters said that caretaker government came here to conduct elections but unfortunately they were increasing the prices of gas and electricity with every passing day. This situation will create an unrest situation among public, the protesters warned.

The protesters demanded of the government to take back decision of increasing rates of gas immediately otherwise they will lockdown all city in coming days. The protesters raised slogans against the government for continuously increasing gas and electricity rates.

The protesters gathered at Rawalpindi Press Club to complain against the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for not taking notice of their grievances. A number of women and children also participated in the demonstration.

The protesters demanded to provide full pressure of natural gas at cheaper rates. A contingent of police officials was present at Murree Road to avoid any kind of bad situation on the occasion.

The protesters said that they have filed several complaints in SNGPL offices to provide them full pressure of gas but in vain. The protesters demanded of the federal government to take immediate notice of the situation.

After the electricity and water crises in the city, the shortage of gas has also emerged as one of the most concerning issues, as many areas of the city have been receiving no supply of gas for months, the angry protesters said. Meanwhile, some other protest demonstrations against increasing of gas and electricity rates also held here at Bakramandi, Tulsa Chowk and Gulistan Colony.
