Weeklong sports sciences training course begins

LAHORE:The one-week training course of Punjab Institute of Sports Sciences (PISC) has commenced at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

PISC Principal Chand Parveen, Chief Instructor Hafeez Bhatti and Instructors Shaista Qaiser and Sajid Ali also attended the programme in which all divisional coaches participated.

On the first day, IAAF Level 4 Athletics Coach Tariq Sidhu and Director Development Athletics Asia Salman Iqbal Butt delivered lectures on Strength and Conditioning and Sports Nutrition respectively.

Addressing the course participants, DG Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail said that this is the first of its kind training programme in the history of Punjab province. “Punjab Institute of Sports Sciences is the beginning of modern sports in the province. The successful coaches will be awarded certificates at the end of course”. He further said that only a well-trained and qualified coach can produce top level athletes. “All divisional coaches of the province are being given latest and advanced training in this one-week training programme,” he added. In his lecture, Tariq Sidhu told the coaches about modern training rules and game techniques. He also threw light on the significance of fitness, biomechanics, coaching skills and discipline during his detailed lecture. Salman Iqbal Butt taught the divisional coaches about the role of vitamins and carbohydrates in the nutrition of an athlete. “All athletes must use their food including fruits and vegetables as per the directions of qualified experts”.
