Citizens continued to face smog as Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 391 keeping Lahore on top of the world’s most polluted cities here Tuesday.
Data released by the EPD revealed that at 9am the AQI at PCSIR Complex Muslim Town was 391, at 12pm it was 271 and at 3pm it was 227 respectively at the same spot. At 4pm, the AQI recorded at Punjab University was 189 and at 6pm, it was 281 at Kot Lakhpat. Data collected from IQ Air revealed that Lahore was on the top of the world’s most polluted cities while Karachi was second with an AQI of 225 and Delhi, India was third with an AQI of 179.
Meanwhile, Met officials predicted that cloudy weather was expected in most upper parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) was expected in Potohar region, including northeast Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during afternoon and evening/night while hailstorm was also expected at isolated places during the period. They further predicted that smog/fog was likely in central/southern parts of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.
Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Leh where mercury dropped to -03°C, while in Lahore, it was 12°C and maximum was 24.2°C.
