LAHORE : Four mega under-construction projects in the provincial capital will be opened for the general public very soon and the completion of these projects will also help a lot in reducing the smog in the City.
Chief Engineer LDA Israr Saeed while talking to the scribe at a project site said this was a good news for the citizens that competition of four mega projects will reduce smog in the city. He said the LDA has strictly directed the contractors to sprinkle water at all the under-construction projects after every two hours.
The CE also gave credit to the caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and said his regular follow-ups and continuous visits have resulted in the completion of ongoing work in record time and all the four mega projects will be opened for the traffic in this month. These mega projects are underpass at Bedian Road, flyovers at Akbar Chowk and Shahdara and an underpass at Khalid Butt Chowk. Israr Saeed said the entire team of LDA and contractors were working day and night to complete the mega projects.
Talking about the projects, he said Akbar Chowk flyover project was being completed in a short period of 6 months instead of 10 months. Apart from the main project of Akbar Chowk flyover project, 10 U-turns and remodeling of Maulana Shaukat Ali Road was also done without cutting of a single tree. The regular work on the project was started on May 26, 2023 and according to the contract, the final date to complete the project was March 25, 2024, LDA’s Chief Engineer said adding similarly, the Shahdara flyover project was being completed in a short period of 7.5 months instead of 10 months.
Construction work on the Shahdara flyover project started on April 4, 2023 and according to the contract the deadline for completion of the project was January 4, 2024. Bedian Road underpass project was being completed in a short period of two and half months instead of six months, he said adding the construction work on the project started on August 26, 2023 and according to the contract, the final date of completion of the project was February 26, 2024.
Khalid Butt Chowk Underpass is also being completed in a short period of about 2 months instead of 6 months. Construction work on the project officially commenced on September 14, 2023 and according to the contract, the final day of completion of the project was March 10, 2024.
Despite the record rainfall this year, these projects were being completed in a record time ahead of schedule, he said and maintained these ongoing projects were situated at the busiest points and will significantly improve traffic flow in the city. Completion of these mega development projects will benefit around eight lakh vehicles per day, saving crores of rupees in terms of fuel expenses and time, the CE concluded.
