A young girl admitted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)was allegedly raped by a male nurse, but the hospital administration didn't conduct her medical examination and tried to hush up the case, police claimed.
The G-9 Police have, however, started investigation into the case.
The alleged victim, suffering fromGuillain–Barré syndrome, was admitted to the Surgical ICU. Sheinformed her father on Saturday night that a male nurse disgraced herforcibly, police sources said. Police said that her father lodged a complaint with the hospital administration, but no attention was paid to the case. However, the hospital hierarchy constituted a three-member board to ascertain the facts. The committee confirmed that the patient was raped but the hospital administration didn't conduct her medical examination, said police.
Sources in the hospital claimed that the same accused had been arrested in another rape case and freed from jail only a couple of months back.
The G-9 SHO,when contacted, confirmed that the hospital administration was reluctant to pursue the case. He said that the father of the alleged victimhas told police that he didn't want to pursue the case further, but police have started investigation to ascertain the facts.
PIMS Media Coordinator Dr. Waseem Khawaja, when contacted for comments, confirmed the episode, saying that the committee has verified rape attempt.
