The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has got 115 miscreants arrested for ripping and tearing offal in Karachi, then dumping it at random places in the city.
On the occasion of Eidul Azha, the SSWMB dumped around 113,435 tonnes of total garbage, out of which animal remains weighed 82,435 tonnes and other garbage 31,000 tonnes.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who is also the chairman of the SSWMB, said that the entire team of the board, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad, SSWMB Managing Director Imtiaz Ali Shah, sanitary workers, district administrations, union committee chairmen and deputy commissioners performed their duties diligently on Eidul Azha.
He said they had planned a five-day offal lifting operation for Eidul Azha, adding that he personally monitored all the arrangements and remained on field from Wednesday to Sunday.
He also said that all the animal entrails were dumped in a careful manner in the trenches they had dug up at the landfill sites. He added that all the collection points of animal remains throughout the city were also cleaned, then limestone was sprayed for disinfection.
In District Central 23,477 tonnes of animal remains and other trash was lifted by the SSWMB, in District East 21,129 tonnes, in District South 19,679 tonnes, in District Keamari 13,082 tonnes, in District Korangi 12,992 tonnes, in District West 11,571 tonnes and in District Malir 11,505 tonnes.
